Welcome to San Antonio
San Antonio is the seventh-largest city in the United States and is known for its rich history, unique attractions, and diverse culture. The city is home to the Alamo and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site made up of historically significant Spanish missions in and around the city.
The world-renowned River Walk offers fun shopping and dining options, stretching from the Convention Center through the heart of downtown.
Our vibrant city is the birthplace of Tex-Mex cuisine, a blend of Mexican and American flavors, and home to El Mercado, or Market Square, the largest Mexican market in the United States.
Travel Visas
Official letters of invitation to SABCS are available when registering. If a letter of invitation is required prior to registering, please email a request to sabcs@uthscsa.edu. Before traveling to SABCS, check with the American consulate to review the current regulations for travel to the United States. Please begin the visa application process as early as possible. Information is available on the U.S. Department of State website.
San Antonio International Airport
San Antonio International Airport is located 8.6 miles from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in downtown San Antonio. The airport serves 11 airlines flying non-stop to 48 destinations in the U.S. and Mexico. When flying from another country, Houston and Dallas airports are common connections.
Ground Transportation to and From Airport
Please note that SABCS does not provide transportation from the airport to the Convention Center. However, there are a number of hotels surrounding San Antonio International Airport and in the downtown area that provide free shuttle service to and from the airport. Hotel shuttles are located outside the baggage claim area at the airport.
A hotel kiosk, with courtesy phone, is available in the baggage claim area for passengers to call their hotel for specific arrival or departure times for shuttle service. It is recommended that SABCS attendees confirm this service with their hotel in advance.
Public Transportation
VIA Metropolitan Transit is San Antonio’s public transportation agency offering service throughout the city, including service within the downtown area. To get downtown from the airport, go to the Lower Roadway (Arrivals/Baggage Level in Terminal A and B), across the marked crosswalk to the outer curb. VIA’s bus stop is located on the far West end of Terminal B, clearly marked on the column. Board the VIA bus route 5, which operates every day. For more details on bus schedules and fares, visit the VIA website or call 866-362-2020.
