The SABCS® Rising Star Award recognizes early-career investigators who have demonstrated exceptional promise in breast cancer research. The Executive Program Committee invites early-career basic scientists, physician scientists, and clinical investigators to apply for this scholarship opportunity to attend SABCS 2026. Individuals who are selected as Rising Stars receive travel support and complimentary registration for the meeting and will deliver an oral presentation in a session with other awardees.

Applicants must submit an abstract through the normal submission process by the July 13 abstract deadline and submit a separate Rising Star Award application by July 27.

Application Process

Eligible applicants must be within 10 years of obtaining their terminal degree and, if applicable, have held a full-time independent faculty-level position (e.g., Instructor, Assistant Professor, or equivalent Research Scientist) for no more than 3 years, and they must submit an abstract for presentation at SABCS 2026. Submissions in all abstract categories are eligible for consideration except for clinical vignettes and ongoing clinical trials. Applicants must be the presenting author or senior author on the submitted abstract.
In addition to the regular abstract submission (3,400 characters including spaces), the application consists of an extended abstract (up to 8,000 characters including spaces); a CV; and a letter of recommendation from a PI, department head, or another mentor who is familiar with the applicant’s work. Only complete applications will be considered.

Information for Selected Presenters

Awardees will present their work as a 10-minute podium presentation, followed by a 5-minute discussion period. The session will feature three Rising Star Awards Program recipients.
