About William L. McGuire, MD
William L. McGuire, MD, was a pioneering breast cancer researcher and professor of medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center, now UT Health San Antonio. His work was instrumental in advancing estrogen receptor testing, laying the foundation for targeted anti-estrogen therapies that transformed treatment for breast cancer patients.
In 1977, McGuire helped establish the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium® with Charles A. Coltman Jr., MD. It has since become the world’s largest meeting dedicated to breast cancer research and treatment.
About the Award
The William L. McGuire Award and Lectureship is presented annually at SABCS® to recognize an investigator whose sustained contributions to translational and clinical research have advanced the understanding of breast cancer pathogenesis and improved patient outcomes.
Established in 1992, the award honors McGuire’s lasting impact on the field of breast oncology.
