About the award

The William L. McGuire Award and Lectureship is presented annually at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium® in honor of William L. McGuire, MD, a pioneering breast cancer researcher and the first chief of oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, now UT Health San Antonio. Established in 1992, the award commemorates McGuire’s significant contributions to breast oncology. In 1977, he co-founded SABCS with Charles A. Coltman, MD, laying the foundation for what has become the world’s largest breast cancer meeting.

The award recognizes an investigator whose sustained contributions to translational and clinical research reflect McGuire’s legacy and advance the understanding of breast cancer pathogenesis and patient outcomes. Nominations open April 27.
